In London, in the end of
the Nineteenth Century, Robert Angier, his beloved wife Julia McCullough and
Alfred Borden are friends and associates of a juggler. When Julia unintentionally
dies during an act, Robert thinks that Alfred is responsible for her death and
they turn into rivals. Both turn into well-known and opponent magicians, damaging
the act of the other on the stage. When Alfred presents a winning trick, Robert
becomes possessed trying to reveal the top secret of his opponent with disastrous
consequences.
